Tour of Andros

At the 12th Km on the seaside drive, there is a crossing: the road ahead leads to Korthi, while left, to the capital Hora. At the 20th Km there is the village Melida with the church of Archangel Michael of 11th century, and at the 28th Km a detour left, leads to the village Menites full of gardens and greenery. Its taverns are under big plane trees, beside springs with excellent cool water all year round. At the 34rd Km there is the capital Hora or Andros. It is built in a tiny peninsula between two beaches, Paraporti and Nimborio, fine for swimming and seaports.

On its outskirts there are ruins of the castle built by the Venetian (1207-1556 ad).

Hora or Andros

The steep, narrow streets, with the white houses, the beautiful mansions and archways show a successful marriage of the cycladic to neo-classical architecture.
