The Island's port Gavrion has been very important since antiquity. Beyond St Peter 2.5 Km NE, ruins of a five-story tower from then Hellenistic period, with a corbel vault, 20m high, can still be seen.
North of Gavrion, in the Fellos region with the beautiful beach, there are notable churches and in antiquity there existed marble quarries. Gavrion is popular with tourists because of its good markets, excellent taverns, pubs, discos, etc.. |

A detour to our left leads to the monastery of Zoodohos Pege, patron of the Island, built in the 14th century. In the 8th Km there is the picturesque Batsi, a beautiful village, extremely popular with tourists. Its pristine, white two-story houses with red geraniums, berry trees, fig trees and eucalyptus trees, ravines with olive trees, a beach with white lilies and the picturesque port are a unique composition in the Aegean Sea.
From Batsi, another detour left after 6Km, leads to the village of Katakoilos and after 14Km to the mountain village of Arnas, in the midst of woodland. This is the tallest mountain of Andros, Petalon. (1003m) |
